Brown Sugar Baked Peaches :: A Skinny Dessert

Baked Peaches : A Skinny Dessert // ROAWO finally got around to making these little peach concoctions ( ran across the recipe on Pinterest forever ago ) the other day, and let me tell you, they were so much better than I expected. I mean, they look amazing, so let the fact that they were BETTER than they look be a little hint that you need these in your life. AND They’re only about 100 Calories a piece !! Best day ever.

I took it upon myself to add this ice-cream ( which I changed to more of a glaze… kinda accidentally… *whoops* ) to the original recipe, because I’m just a genius, basically. I actually liked the glaze better than the whole ice-cream idea, but do what ya feel, my friends.

Baked Peaches : A Skinny Dessert // ROAWO

So, basically, heres what you need for the peaches:

A Whole, Organic Peach

1 Tsp Organic Butter ( read why I always use organic here )

2-4 Tsp Brown Sugar

& what you need for the 3-ingredient glaze / ice-cream ( per my modifications ):

2 Ripe Bananas

A little Vanilla Almond Milk

A little Cinnamon

Baked Peaches : A Skinny Dessert // ROAWO How To Make The Baked Peaches ::

First, Preheat the oven to 375 °. Cut the peach in half & remove the pit. Place about 1/2 tsp of butter in the middle of each peach-half & top with brown sugar ( the amount of brown sugar is really just a personal preference.. I used about 2 teaspoons per half ). Sprinkle with a little cinnamon. Place in the baking dish / on the baking pan skin-side down. Then, bake for 30 minutes, or until peach is tender.

Baked Peaches : A Skinny Dessert // ROAWO How to make the glaze ::

Cut / peel the bananas & place in the freezer until frozen. Place frozen banana pieces, a small amount of almond milk ( use less for an ice-cream consistency & more for a glaze-consistency… just eye-ball it ) & a dash of cinnamon in a blender and blend until combined. Pour over the peaches, & enjoy !!

Baked Peaches : A Skinny Dessert // ROAWO These are beyond-amazing served warm. ESP with the creamy, banana / almond glaze. Baked peaches are such a great dessert alternative for those of you who NEED to satisfy your sweet tooth ( AKA ME ) & attempt to stay healthy in the process.

I mean, they’re hardly short of life-changing.

Juice Cleanse :: The Dirty Deets

I FINALLY unpacked my always-packed suitcase and got the chance to sit my azz on the couch and watch cheesy crime shows all day. For pretty much the first time this summer, I had nowhere to be and nothing to do. Peace.

I decided this would be the best time to veg out, relax, do a juice cleanse, catch up on some blogging education, and craft some jewelry ( I got SO many amazing trinkets from CO ).

SujaCleanse

Alright down to business:: Juice cleanse. I ordered a 3-day cleanse from Suja Juice. Suja shipped all my juices to my house in a make-shift cooler ( explains the shipping prices… But I got the cleanse on sale w/ free shipping so go me / life rocks ). Here’s all the juicy details (<<< see what I did there) on my three-day detox::

comp IMG_6494

Day 1::
I woke up, weighed myself ( important to do, so you can track your results ), grabbed my morning Glow juice, and went about my relaxing and hanging out with my dog / love of my life. I drank a lot of water throughout the day and never felt hungry, which is extremely strange for me. I’m always hungry ( or bored ). I did have a horrible headache, however. I can’t say that it was due to the cleanse, because I have headaches somewhat often, BUT it was noticeable so I thought I’d address it. I also felt a little more sluggish than usual. I woke up a little late in the morning, so I didn’t finish all six juices ( only drank 5 ). I also added in a broth-based soup around dinner time ( yeah that’s allowed in the cleanse-rules ). So basically, I wasn’t feeling 100% by the end of the day, but I wasn’t feeling like complete shit either.

On Ice copy IMG_6570

Day 2::
I woke up the morning of day two and drank a hot cup of lemon water and started my juices for the day. I wasn’t hungry at all.. Again, very strange for me. I had a big green tea/passion tea in the afternoon, as well as my afternoon juices. And drank a TON of water ( <<< very important ). No headaches one day 2, so that was a good sign. I didn’t get through all my juices, because I slept in again. I also ate a bowl of fruit on this day (which is allowed ). Day 2 was SO much easier than Day 1.

IMG_6571

Day 3::
Last day! I woke up a little hungry on day 3, but drank a glass of water & my morning juice and got over it ( gotta keep my eyes on the prize ). This was the easiest day by far, so I finished it like a champ. I had SO much energy after I finished the cleanse, which I didn’t expect. I usually start these things and end up cheating on the first day ( whoops ), so I was extremely proud of myself. Also, I lost about 4 pounds in 3 days, which was amaaaze.

I LOVE Suja Juice ( above others ) because I didn’t get a juice that I just didn’t like. They were all REALLY good. Also, Suja is organic / no GMOs … so basically its the best in the biz. Order yours online now and get to cleansing friends!

Durango, CO :: Part II

Durango part 2 Here’s a lil’ recap of my last few days in Durango:: ( If you didn’t see Part I of my Durango adventures, check it out here )

So, my family is extremely into sports/being active ( those of you who know me are thinking… duh ), so we always enjoy getting outside and getting a little workout in. Durango has some really pretty hiking trails, so we decided to go for it.

fruit and granola fitfam hike wildflowers IMG_6452 IMG_6416 The hike took us about 2 hours to finish. There wasn’t an inch of the land that wasn’t absolutely beautiful AND the air was sooo crisp and clean.. I love it. My little brother was even able to finish the hike ( props on being a strong leetle kid, Brooks ), but I can’t say that he did it without complaints.

After our hike, we ate at Kennebec Cafe. We got the charcuterie plate to start ( << freakin’ delish ) and I got the Grilled Top Sirloin with mashed potatoes ( << I could live off of mashed potates ) and spinach. Mine was the table favorite, per usual. I have quite the knack for ordering.

pint cup ALSO: this Hubert’s Lemonade was a good little find at the grocery store in Durango. Its all-natural ( they also have organic ) and soooo tart, which is exactly how I like my lemonade. It tastes super natural and clean.. no nasties. And its cute-looking. Oh, and I snatched this awesome pint glass from Earthbound Trading Co for like $2.. I luv.

I have been so spoiled this week and a half with perfect weather in California + Colorado… I’m dreading getting off the plane in Texas to a cloud of humidity. I LOVE the crap outta Texas, but the weather isn’t the most amazing thing ever.

‘Till next time.

Durango, CO

Durango, CO :: As told by ROAWO I am SO in love with Colorado in the summer, it’s unreal. Its the perfect temp and not humid at all ( esp for someone coming from Texas.. hot and humid is pretty much the norm ). The cherry on top of this little getaway was our new house in Durango. Seriously, the perfect mountain home… I’m such a lucky gal !! Here’s my favorite stuffz about the house ::

Durango, CO :: As told by ROAWO IMG_6109 DurangoLeather IMG_6112 IMG_6218 The town of Durango is the cutest little town I’ve ever seen.  Its a little hippie town ( probably why my grandma loves it so much.. she’s a little bit of a tree-hugger ) with a large Native-American presence. There is an endless amount of amazing restaurants that provide yummy meals made from organic and locally grown ingredients ( << they’re real big on that in CO ). In the evening, most bars/restaurants have live music and options to have a drink/relax or dance.

Also, Durango hosts SO MANY places to shop for gypsy/Native American-esque jewelry, leather, home decor, etc (some of my jewelry bought from Durango can be seen here). My favorite.

Here’s some highlights from the first few days in CO::

IMG_6088 IMG_6191 My favorite coffe-spot in town:: The Steaming Bean Coffee Co.. the lady who works there is such a badass too.. its a must-go.

Granola_Latte IMG_6201 IMG_6248 The train that goes from Durango to the town of Silverton is something you gotta do at least once. We rode in the Silver Vista train car, and it was so worth the money to sit first-class. The car was glass-roofed and open on the sides so we could see EVERYTHING.. which is what you want because the views are absolutely incredible.

Seriously, though. Amazing. The railroad also offers special wine tasting experiences and a bunch of free stuff when you sit first class, SO its worth it. A 3 hour train-ride is really only enjoyable with some snack/drank action going on.

IMG_6291 IMG_6386 Colorado in the summer = flowers galore. The town is COVERED in them and they are all bright and perfect and beautiful.

IMG_6387 Also a must-go:: The Durango Juice Bar. I got the Daily Greens Juice ( spinach, parsley, kale, celery, cucumber, green apple, & lemon ) with a wheatgrass shot pretty much every day. The sunflower seeds are grrreat too. My 9-year-old brother liked the green juice here.. so obviously, its freakin’ good.

A couple other places we ate in the first few days that I recommend are::

Eolus:: really good organic food and tons of gluten-free options ( and sushi )! I got the chopped salad and we all split the flourless chocolate cake, the creme brûlée, and the gluten-free beignets w/ lemon custard sauce. My family goes really hard in the desert arena… as you can tell. Also, Eolus has live music most nights on the roof in the summer.. its a really cool spot.

Christina’s Mexican Grill & Bar:: the most amazing mexican food! I mean, we have GREAT mex food in Texas, but this place competes with some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. I got this amazing Pollo Asado with beans and rice on the side ( we all decided mine was everyone’s fav ). They serve some AMAZE breakfast too.

Find Part II of the trip here!

Eminence Organics: The Best Stuff For Your Skin Since Ever

Yo.

Today I have something extremely important to discuss:: Skincare. And not just ANY skincare:: Organic Skincare. Yes, as I have mentioned before, I love to buy all-natural, organic products when possible, and that obviously includes what I scrub-a-dub my face with.

Eminence Organics Skincare

The most amazing skincare line [introduced to me by my mom’s dermatologist] is Eminence Organic Skincare. Eminence not only has a pretty little packaging [I told y’all that gets me], but is lightweight and doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin. This brand can get quite a bit pricier than drugstore brands, but, to me, its worth it.

Here’s my routine/my favorites:

+ Eminence Clear Skin Probiotic Cleanser: I use this cleanser every morning and night. It is for acne-prone skin, so it combats nasty zit-face while remaining gentle on my skin. Perfecto. A little goes a long way, so only use a nickel- to quarter-sized amount for your whole face. Also, I’ve found that it doesn’t really lather very much so don’t be freaked out if you can’t get it to bubble up like hand soap [which means less drying out of the skin // yay].

+ Eminence Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant w/ Lactic Acid: I use this powder exfoliant about twice a week. It has a consistency between flour and sugar [it is completely dry]. You use a very small amount of the powder combined with water and gently [GENTLY] scrub all those dead skin cells far, far away. And if anyone knows what “Dermafoliant” actually means, feel free to leave that explanation in the comment area bee-low.

+ Eminence Red Currant Rapid Infusion Masque: This mask is incredible. Its a little pick-me-up twice a week that makes my skin glow like crazy [thank you antioxidant-complex]. I use a little of this this after I’ve cleansed (or cleansed and exfoliated), and leave it on for 2-3 minutes. The Red Current Rapid Infusion Masque is incredibly moisturizing as well. My favorite thing about the mask, however, is how simple and clean it is. It’s not some goopy green monster mask from a 1990s chick flick; its light and thin and takes no time at all! Disclaimer:: There are portions of the currants in the masque, so you will have a few on your face while wearing it.. lolz.

+ Eminence Eight Greens Youth Serum: I’ve just recently added this anti-aging portion to my skincare routine… I want to avoid wrinkles for as long as I can [obviously]. This serum is—yes, you guessed it—light and gentle. I use a teeny tiny amount both morning and night. Like the mask, the serum contains antioxidants to combat aging and to energize your skin. A little goes a long way with this as well. So, if you are in your twenties or so, it’s probably a good idea to add this to your routine [just to be safe].

+ Eminence Eye Cucumber Gel: Like the cleanser and the serum, I use this morning and night. Cucumber cools my puffy eye bags, and this product isn’t too gunky under the eyes, which is just a-okay with me. Eyes get wrinkly REAL quick, so I make it a point to remember this step. Also, I use my ring finger to apply the gel, because this finger is the least-strong.. you don’t want to treat the delicate under-eye area too harshly.

+ Eminence Stone Crop Whip Moisturizer: THE FINAL STEP is this versatile moisturizer. It does NOT contain a sunscreen [because I already have badass Sun Bum sunscreen that I talked about here] but I use this night AND in the morning. It’s a pretty thick cream, so for the morning, I take a small amount and dilute it with a couple water droplets [or you can dilute with a drop of the serum], and it glides on very lightly. At night, if my skin is begging for some moisture, I’ll lay it on thicker… then wake up feeling extra-balla status.

ALSO: Don’t forget to use your facial products on your neck!! This area needs some attention as well. I especially make sure to use the serum/moisturizer combo on my neck area.

So:: If you like all your products to match [like me.. OCD], if you like organics, if you have sensitive skin, if you don’t wanna get wrinkles at 30, or if you are a living, breathing human, give Eminence a try. You’ll probably end up stocked up on all their swag like me. I never leave my facial place [facelogic spa in College Station, TX] without trying out a new product. I’m addicted.

Until l8er <— cool, I know.

OMG Organic Lemon, Garlic Butter Pasta with Turkey-Parm Meatballs

Hellur thur, Happy Monday! So, my roommates and I L-O-V-E to put together a good meal.. almost more than we love to binge-watch “The Following” on Netflix. Almost more. Last week, we prepared Organic Spaghetti, topped it with a Lemon Garlic Butter Sauce, threw some Turkey-Parmesan Meatballs on top and added some stuffed crescents and sautéed spinach. Usually, we opt for healthy meals, but this pasta dish was too yum-o to turn down. I mean…. this recipe is to-die-for. See for yourself:

We started with an organic spaghetti from Costco (a.k.a. Heaven-on-Earth) and whipped up this Lemon Garlic Butter Sauce (found here). Then, we adjusted a Chicken Parm Meatball recipe (here ya go) to include ground turkey instead of chicken. The only reason for this was that we didn’t have any ground chicken, so use whatever it is that you like better.

IMG_4016_Fotor IMG_4032_Fotor

On top of all of that, my roommate, Jac, made some Bacon-Jalapeño Cream Cheese stuffed crescent rolls. Thats a mouthful… no pun intended. This easy addition was made simply by smearing a small amount of cream cheese on store-bought crescents and toping with jalapeño and bacon bits, then baking for the allotted time on the package. These little bites of heaven contain a little more processed ingredients than I generally include in my diet, but they were too hard to turn down. The pups even got to split a little one… who can say no to their cute leetle faces??

IMG_4029_Fotor IMG_4018_Fotor

And don’t forget the champagne! I’m not sure what our excuse for celebration was… but there is always a reason for a little glass of da bubbly. I picked up this Lagranja 360 Cava Brut at Trader Joe’s for about $7 (hey, I’m in college.. not rollin’ in the $$). It was a pretty good little treat for less than $10. Gotta love Trader J’s.

Cheers!
